Rejection, Rejection Everywhere!

This past week it seems I can't blink without being rejected by something. Some highlights include:

1) Rejected by two more grad schools, including Berkeley, where I've given all my nerd-love the past few years. Even sadder, the letter read "Dear Applicant ... sincerely, the Department." Like Berkeley and I are strangers! Like Berkeley doesn't even know me! Ouch.
2) Rejected by two publishers, one who said she "couldn't connect with my characters and story" and another who said the voice was too "adult." Sigh.
3) Rejected by more too-fancy-for-me magazines. Expected.

My brain interprets a form letter like this:

Dear Applicant,

We regret to inform you that you were not recommended for admission to graduate study. If you have questions about this decision, please contact the department to which you applied.

With best wishes for your future,

Graduate Admissions

to read something more along the lines of this:

Dear Person Who Does Not Deserve to Be Named,

You are not good enough for us. You are, in fact, a failure.

Sincerely,

Person or Department Far More Important Than You

I kid, I kid. Sort of.

Oh well, 'tis the reality of competition and of writing. I comfort myself with articles such as this.

Onward!
